Delaware at Connecticut

The University of Delaware Football team (6-3, 3-3) bounced back from a tough loss to Maine last week, to post a big win over No. 5 ranked Connecticut (7-2, 4-2) 59-17. The game was a record shattering affair for the Blue Hens, who broke the team and Atlantic-10 record for total offense by accumulating 732 yards on the day, 584 of which was through the air. Meanwhile, spread end Eddie Conti and quarterback Matt Nagy werebusy rewriting the Blue Hens individual single game records. Conti had 15 catches which was school record, 354 yards receiving which was a school record and an Atlantic-10 record, alongwith 401 all-purpose yards which tied a school record. Nagy threw for 556 yards, which was a school record.

Delaware jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter on two Craig Cummings touchdowns, but saw the Huskies cut the lead to 14-10. The Blue Hens extended the lead to 24-10 at halftime on Butter Pressey's first career touchdown, a 28-yard touchdown reception and a 40-yard Garon Sizemore field goal. The Huskies cut the lead to 24-17 in the third quarter, but Delaware responded with five unanswered touchdowns and a strong defensive effort to close out the game and win 59-17. Derrick Downs scored three consecutive touchdowns after Connecticut had cut the lead to 24-17, while Conti and Greg Penecale closed off the scoring in the fourth quarter.
