High School: Played linebacker and running back at Lowell for head coach Scott Boyle...led team to a four-year record of 30-12...led team with over 100 tackles, eight sacks and 12 tackles for loss...also returned an interception for a touchdown...rushed for over 500 yards and three touchdowns as a running back...nicknamed "the missile" for collisions on special teams...named Most Valuable Player of the defense at Lowell...earned All-State honors as a senior when he also was named 2005 Merrimack Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year...two-time all-conference selection..selected to play in prestigious Shriner's All-Star game...also competed in basketball and track and field...earned coaches award for both teams...member of four conference titles in three sports during career...honor roll student...had perfect attendance for eight years.

At Delaware: Second-year member of the squad as a redshirt freshman....talented young defender who will add depth to Blue Hen linebacker corps in the middle...will battle senior J.T. Laws for top backup spot behind second-year starter and All-CAA candidate Erik Johnson...hard-hitter who will also be expected to fill role on the Blue Hen special teams unit...collected three tackles in Blue-White Spring Game in April...2006: Moved up to No. 3 on depth chart at linebacker but did not see game action...retained freshman eligibility...team went 5-6 under head coach K.C. Keeler.

Personal: Benard C. Makumbi (“buh-nard muh coom-be”)...born March 1, 1988...son of David and Esther Makumbi...both parents are ministers at their church...one of eight children...civil engineering major at Delaware...enjoys movies, playing basketball, and swimming in spare time.
