High School Honors: Two-time All-State selection by Atlanta Journal Constitution as a linebacker at Marist High School...first team All-State as a senior...an All-DeKalb County honoree three times in his career and a two-time All-region selection...three-year starter and four-year letterwinner...led Marist to three straight state semifinal appearances as team recorded a 48-7 mark over his four seasons...posted 110 tackles, including 12 for loss, as a senior...added four caused fumbles, five fumble recoveries, and three pass breakups... was named team's Defensive Most Valuable Player three straight times, leading the squad in tackles each season...was twice named the DeKalb Touchdown Club Defensive Player of the Month...selected to play in the Georgia High School All-Star Game...was a two-time All-county selection in baseball... three-year starter at first base who helped Marist to state finals appearance in 1999...

At Delaware: 2003: Second-year member of Delaware linebacker unit after transfer from University of Louisville...key member of unit as a junior who will be No. 2 at middle linebacker behind Mondoe Davis entering pre-season...can also play outside linebacker where he will battle for starting spot...rugged defender who plays run well...had one tackle in spring game...had best 40-yard dash time among UD linebackers (4.72) and recorded best squat lift on the entire team (620 lbs.) in spring testing...2002: Transferred to Delaware from the University of Louisville during the summer and became eligible immediately per NCAA transfer rules...played in all 12 games with seven starts at outside linebacker...ranked sixth on team with 56 tackles, including 26 solo stops...had five tackles for losses of 17 yards and added a half sack...also broke up two passes and tied for team lead with two fumble recoveries...collected five or more tackles six times led by a career-high 11 stops (five solo) at Rhode Island...also had seven tackles each vs. West Chester, including two for loss, and against Northeastern...recovered fumbles vs. Richmond and Rhode Island and had two pass breakups vs. James Madison...played against older brother Tim when Hens travelled to Massachusetts Nov. 2 and had a solid game with six tackles...two will meet up again in 2003 at Delaware.

At Louisville: 2001: Backup linebacker and special teams performer for Louisville team that went 11-2 and defeated Brigham Young 28-10 in the Liberty Bowl...team was ranked as high as No. 16 nationally at one point during the season...appeared in four games and posted two tackles on the season...was teammate of current UD teammate Brad Shushman while at Louisville...2000: Did not see action as a freshman and retained freshman eligibility...team went 9-3 and lost in the Liberty Bowl.

Personal: Ryan Michael McDermond...born May 15, 1981...son of Bill and Kathleen McDermond...marketing major at Delaware...father is a graduate of UD rival Villanova...youngest of six children...comes from an athletic family where four boys all have played college football...Pat played at Pennsylvania, Bill played at Vanderbilt, and Tim now plays at UD rival UMass where he will be a senior offensive lineman in 2003.
