University of Delaware Football Drops One Spot to No. 11 in The Sports Network; Stays at No. 11 in Coaches Poll

NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware football team, which improved to 3-0 and remained unbeaten in the Colonial Athletic Association with a 38-9 win over Rhode Island Saturday, dropped one spot to No. 11 in The Sports Network Top 25 poll and remained at No. 11 in the Collegiate Commissioner’s Association/ American Football Coaches Association Coaches Poll announced Monday afternoon.

The Blue Hens improved to 3-0 for the third time in the last five seasons Saturday as they treated a sold out Delaware Stadium crowd to an impressive showing on offense and defense. Delaware quarterback Joe Flacco threw for 337 yards and three touchdowns while the Blue Hen defense held Rhode Island (0-3) to just 266 total yards, forced three turnovers, and posted nine tackles for loss.

Delaware will continue action this Saturday as they travel to Colonial Athletic Association foe Towson at 7 p.m. at Johnny Unitas Stadium in Towson, MD. The game will be televised live on Comcast SportsNet-Mid Atlantic.

Two-time defending champion Appalachian State remained at the top spot for the third straight week, earning all 90 first place votes in the TSN poll and all 28 first place votes in the CCA/AFCA poll.

In the TSN poll, Appalachian State was followed by Montana, Massachusetts, Northern Iowa, North Dakota State, McNeese State, Southern Illinois, James Madison, Youngstown State, New Hampshire, Delaware, Hampton, Wofford, Illinois State, Hofstra, Furman, Sam Houston State, Montana State, Western Illinois, Eastern Illinois, Yale, Lafayette, Alabama A&M, Cal Poly, and Eastern Washington.

Five Colonial Athletic Association teams were among the top 25 with No. 3. Massachusetts, No. 8. James Madison, No. 10. New Hampshire, No. 11 Delaware, and No. 15 Hofstra recognized. Towson, Villanova, Northeastern, and William & Mary also earned votes but not enough to appear in the Top 25.
