 NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware football team, which improved to 2-0 with a 41-14 victory over longtime rival West Chester University Saturday evening, continued to move up in the national polls announced early this week.
The Blue Hens (2-0), who will host Colonial Athletic Association foe Rhode Island this Saturday, Sept. 15 at 3:30 p.m. at Delaware Stadium (Live on CN8 Television), moved up three spots to No. 10 in The Sports Network Top 25 poll and two spaces to No. 11 in the Collegiate Commissioner’s Association/American Football Coaches Association coaches poll.
The Hens cracked the top 10 in the TSN poll for the first time since September, 2005. The CCA/AFCA is a first-year poll.
Two-time defending champion Appalachian State remained at No. 1 in both polls, earning all 77 first place votes in The Sports Network Poll and all 28 first place votes in the CCA/AFCA poll.
A total of six CAA teams were picked in the Top 25 in the TSN poll, including No. 2 Massachusetts, No. 7 James Madison, No. 10 Delaware, No. 12 New Hampshire, No. 19 Hofstra, and No. 23 Towson. In the CCA/AFCA poll, Massachusetts was No. 2, James Madison was No. 7, Delaware was No. 11, New Hampshire was No. 12, and No. 20 Hofstra.
In The Sports Network poll, Appalachian State was followed by Massachusetts, Montana, Northern Iowa, North Dakota State, Youngstown State, Southern Illinois, McNeese State, James Madison, Delaware, Wofford, New Hampshire, Hampton, Eastern Illinois, Furman, Sam Houston State, Illinois State, Nicholls State, Hofstra, Montana State, Yale, Western Illinois, Towson, Delaware State, and Lafayette.
In the CCA/AFCA poll, Appalachian State was followed by Massachusetts, Montana, North Dakota State, Northern Iowa, Southern Illinois, James Madison, Youngstown State, McNeese State, Wofford, Delaware, New Hampshire, Hampton, Sam Houston State, Illinois State, Furman, Eastern Illinois, Nicholls State, Montana State, Hofstra, Cal Poly, Western Illinois, Yale, Delaware State, and Alabama A&M.
