NEWARK, DE -- After dropping one spot each of the last two weeks despite wins over Rhode Island and Towson, the University of Delaware football squad finally moved up this week and earned a No. 11 ranking in both The Sports Network and Collegiate Commissioners Association/American Football Coaches Association Top 25 polls announced Monday afternoon.
Delaware (5-0), one of just 14 undefeated teams left in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision, defeated Monmouth 42-7 this past Saturday at Delaware Stadium. The Blue Hens now move on to a Top 20 showdown this week as Delaware travels to No. 15 New Hampshire for a Colonial Athletic Association game at Cowell Stadium in Durham, NH Saturday at 12 noon. The Hens have won five straight times in games played at New Hampshire.
Montana remained at the top spot in both polls for the second straight week, earning 52 of the 119 first place votes in the TSN poll and 18 of the 28 first place votes in the coaches poll.
Delaware was one of six CAA teams listed in the TSN Top 20 and was joined by No. 4 Massachusetts, No. 9 James Madison, No. 12 Hofstra, No. 14 Richmond, and No. 15 New Hampshire.
Montana earned 2,573 votes in the TSN poll and was followed by Northern Iowa (23/2,564), North Dakota State (19/2,496), Massachusetts (11/2,422), Appalachian State (2/2,294), McNeese State (7/2,236), Southern Illinois (2/2,115), Wofford (3/2,084), James Madison (1,878), and Youngstown State (1,811) in the top 10.
Delaware was at No. 11 with 1,693 votes followed by Hofstra, Montana State, Richmond, New Hampshire, Eastern Illinois, Nicholls State, Yale, Sam Houston State, Delaware State, Hampton, Western Illinois, Illinois State, Cal Poly, and Southern. Villanova and Towson also received votes among CAA teams but did not qualify for the Top 25.
In the CCA/AFCA Coaches poll, Montana was No. 1 with 18 first place votes (668 points) followed by North Dakota State (4/649), Massachusetts (5; 638), Northern Iowa (630), Appalachian State (566), Southern Illinois (544), McNeese State (1/536), Wofford (513), James Madison (501), and Youngstown State (474) in the top 10.
Delaware was at No. 11 with 421 points followed by Hofstra, Montana State, New Hampshire, Richmond, Eastern Illinois, Yale, Nicholls State, Sam Houston State, Hampton, Delaware State, Illinois State, Western Illinois, Cal Poly, and The Citadel.
