WACO, TX -- For the second time this week, University of Delaware senior running back Omar Cuff has been selected to a post-season All-American team.
On Tuesday, Cuff was named to the American Football Coaches Association first team All-American team from a committee of NCAA FCS head coaches. He earned first team Walter Camp Foundation All-American honors yesterday.
The AFCA is the second of four All-American teams to be announced this month. The Sports Network and Associated Press All-American teams will be announced later in December.
Cuff (at right), a senior from Landover, MD (C.H. Flowers), is just the third Blue Hen running back to earn AFCA honors following Gardy Kahoe in 1971 and Daryl Brown in 1994. A first team All-CAA selection this year, he has set single-season school records with his 377 carries and 1,861 yards rushing. He has also hauled in 52 receptions for 513 yards.
A starter in all 14 games, Cuff leads the nation in scoring with 38 touchdowns, which set a new single-season FCS record and is just three shy of the All-Divisions mark. His 132.93 rushing yards-per-game average is also the seventh best in the country.
A third-team All-American selection by The Sports Network as a sophomore in 2005, he earned national Offensive Player of the Week honors by the College Sporting News this year after scoring seven touchdowns and racking up 296 yards of total offense against William & Mary in the season opener.
The Colonial Athletic Association placed four players on the AFCA All-American team. In addition to Cuff, New Hampshire’s Ricky Santos was selected to the first-team squad on offense, while Towson’s Brian Bradford and James Madison’s Tony LeZotte earned defensive honors. The four selections from the CAA were the most from any conference in the country.
