MOBILE, AL -- University of Delaware senior quarterback Joe Flacco (at right) completed 2 of 7 passes for 22 yards and one interception Saturday while playing for the North team at the annual Senior Bowl All-Star Game Saturday before 40,646 fans at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
The South team posted a 17-16 victory as Florida running back Andrew Caldwell scored on a two-yard run on the final play of the game and Georgia kicker Brandon Coutu followed with the extra point.
Flacco, a 6-6, 230 lb. quarterback from Audubon, NJ (Audubon High School), received high marks from the National Football League scouts and media members who attended the week-long practice sessions. Some had Flacco rated as the best quarterback of the six on hand and a potential first round pick in the NFL draft this April.
Flacco became just the third Delaware player to take part in the game, joining defensive tackle Dennis Johnson in 1972 and tight end Ben Patrick last season. Patrick recently completed his first season with the Arizona Cardinals. Flacco, who entered the game in the second quarter, threw an incomplete on his first pass and was intercepted on his second attempt. He later fired completions of nine yards to Marcus Smith of New Mexico and 13 yards to Lavelle Hawkins of California.
Among the game’s other quarterbacks, Michigan’s Chad Henne completed 5 of 9 passes for 64 yards for the North, USC’s John David Booty completed 6 of 12 passes for 72 yards and an interception for the North, Tennessee’s Erik Ainge was 13 of 21 for 159 yards for the South, Kentucky’s Andre Woodson was 3 of 6 for 27 yards and a touchdown for the South, and Hawaii’s Colt Brennan was 2 of 6 for 29 yards and an interception for the South.
Flacco set 20 school records during his career and enjoyed an outstanding senior season for the Blue Hens in 2007, leading the team to the NCAA Division I FCS national championship game while earning Colonial Athletic Association Co-Offensive Player of the Year, Eastern College Athletic Conference Eastern Player of the Year, and third team The Sports Network All-American honors.
He completed 331 of 521 passes for 4,263 yards and 23 touchdowns with just five interceptions during the 2007 season as he ranked No. 6 in the nation in passing yardage per game (284.2), No. 10 in total offense per game (285.7), and No. 18 in passing efficiency (144.91).
He will take part in the NFL pre-draft combine Feb. 20-26 at Indianapolis, IN.
