RICHMOND, VA -- It’s now five straight weeks of Colonial Athletic Association awards for the University of Delaware football team.
True freshman safety Cody Cipalla, who did not even start in Saturday’s 42-7 win over Monmouth, was named the CAA Rookie of the Week as he posted a team-high seven tackles in the win.
Cipalla, a freshman from Girald, PA (Northwestern High School), collected four solo stops for Delaware. The Hens held Monmouth to a single touchdown, 15 first downs, and 234 total yards, including just 46 yards on 34 carries. Monmouth converted just 4 of 14 third down conversions and averaged only 3.5 yards per game.
No. 11 ranked Delaware (5-0, 3-0 CAA) will continue action this Saturday when they travel to Durham, NH to take on No. 15 ranked New Hampshire (2-2, 0-2 CAA) at Cowell Stadium. The game will be televised live on CN8 TV throughout the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions.
Earlier this season, Blue Hen RB Omar Cuff was named CAA Offensive Player of the Week (William & Mary), RB Phillip Thaxton was named CAA Rookie of the Week (West Chester), CB Anthony Walters was named CAA Rookie of the Week (Rhode Island), and DE Matt Marcorelle was named CAA Defensive Player of the Week (Towson).
