NEWARK, DE -- Molly Burke (right) scored two goals and dished out an assist and Katie Evans contributed a goal and two assists as the University of Delaware got past Virginia Commonwealth to post a 4-2 Colonial Athletic Association field hockey victory Friday night at Rullo Stadium.

The Blue Hens (5-6, 2-0 CAA) remained tied for first place in the CAA standings as they won their second straight game and third in the last four outings. Delaware, which is now 6-0 all-time vs. VCU, will continue CAA play Sunday at Northeastern University in Boston.

Virginia Commonwealth (1-9, 0-2 CAA) remained winless in league play as the Rams’ losing streak reached eight games. Rebecca Sullivan and Emilie Osinga tallied goals for VCU.

Evans, a senior from Newtown Square, PA (Villa Maria Academy), ran her team-leading point total to 19 points on six goals and seven assists with her four-point effort. She upped her career assist total to 31 to move into second place all-time at Delaware in that category. Kelly Cawley holds the all-time mark with 49 assists in 1995-98. Burke, a junior from Southbury, CT (Popmeraug High School) posted her third career multi-goal game.

The Rams opened the scoring when Sullivan tipped a shot just inside the circle by Ashley Cadwallader past Delaware goalkeeper Nikki Rhoades 12 minutes and 58 seconds into the contest.

But the Hens came back with three unanswered goals to take control. Burke scored her first goal of the night off a penalty corner as she ripped a shot past VCU goalkeeper Laura Baker (nine saves) off assists from Kaili Kao and Evans at the 18:00 mark. Casey Howard scored her sixth goal of the season just over four minutes later off another penalty corner as she tipped in a shot by Burke that was set up by Evans to give the Hens a 2-1 lead at the break.

The Hens made it 3-1 with 22:40 left to play as Evans stickhandled around Baker and scored an unassisted goal. VCU came back to cut the lead to 3-2 when Osinga scored from right in front of the net off a feed from Vicky Smith with 18 minutes left to play.

Delaware, which outshot VCU 18-5 and held an 8-2 advantage in corners, then iced the victory as Burke scored her second goal of the game and fifth of the season off a rebound with 7:52 left to play.
