Amy Lewis Scores Four Goals, Including the Game Winner, as Rutgers Downs Delaware 5-4 in Double Overtime

PISCATAWAY, NJ -- The University of Delaware field hockey team fell to Rutgers, 5-4, Sunday afternoon as Amy Lewis scored eight minutes into the second overtime period to seal up the win for the Scarlet Knights.

Rutgers (3-4) came out hot as they posted the games first seven shots including a goal by Lewis, who had four on the day to give her 10 on the season. The Hens (2-3) would fight back though as senior Katie Evans scored three minutes before the end of the half to knot the game at 1-1.

After a second Rutgers goal, junior Molly Burke scored off a penalty corner to tie the game at 2-2. After two more Scarlet Knight goals, including one by Lewis at the 51:32 mark, the Hens began thier comeback.

A goal by sophomore Jessica Cortellino pulled UD within one with just over six minutes remaining in the game. With only 1:54 left Evans tallied her second goal of the game off a penalty corner to bring the game to its third tie of the day at 4-4 and sent the Hens to their second straight overtime game.

After a scoreless first overtime period Lewis completed her marvelous day by scoring her fourth goal to stop the Hens comeback and give the Scarlet Knights the win.

The Blue Hens will return to action Wednesday when they travel to Maryland. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
