HARRISONBURG, VA: Freshman Meghan Bain scored the first two goals of the game and added an assist on the third as James Madison downed Delaware, 3-0, at the JMU Field Hockey Complex on Sunday afternoon.
Delaware falls to 6-10 overall and 3-4 in the Colonial Athletic Association after being shutout for the third consecutive game. James Madison, ranked 16th nationally, improves to 12-6 overall and 5-1 in the conference as the Dukes recorded their third consecutive shutout.
Bain put the Dukes on top with a breakaway goal 24 minutes into the match as Lauren Walls passed to Bain, who beat junior goalkeeper Nikki Rhoades one-on-one.
The one-goal lead held until the Dukes struck again with 10 minutes remaining in the second half. Sophomore Ashley Walls sent the ball into the center of the circle where she found Bain for the five-yard shot.
James Madison added one more goal with 1:22 remaining in the contest as Bain found Maureen Klingler wide open for a five-yard shot.
Casey Howard posted the only shot for the Hens as Delaware was dominated 13-1 in shots and 8-0 in shots on goal.
The Blue Hens will return to action Sunday when they travel to Drexel for a 4 p.m. start time.
