WILLIAMSBURG, VA-- Gina Cimarelli scored the game-winning goal 14:30 into the second half to lead the College of William & Mary to a 2-1 win over the University of Delaware field hockey team Friday evening at Busch Field.
The Tribe’s Maggie Long scored 12:11 into the first half off of an assist from Kelly Giles to put William & Mary up 1-0. Delaware responded on a penalty corner with a goal by Molly Burke, her fifth of the season, and the assist from Amber Deimler with 9:52 remaining in the first half. Cimarelli’s goal, her fourth of the season, came off of a pass from Carly Falgowski.
William & Mary outshot the Blue Hens 14-4 and held a 9-2 advantage in penalty corners. Delaware keeper Megan Allen made nine saves in the loss, while the Tribe keeper Gwen Hunter recorded three saves.
William & Mary holds a 6-2 all-time advantage over the Blue Hens.
The Blue Hens fall to 6-7 (1-3 Colonial Athletic Association) on the season, while the Tribe improve to 7-5 overall (3-0 CAA).
Delaware returns to action on Sunday, October 9 when the Blue Hens travel to CAA opponent Old Dominion for a 1 p.m. game.
