 Santiago, Chile- University of Delaware junior Katie Evans scored two goals to lead the USA Field Hockey Under-21 team to a 14-0 victory over Zimbabwe in the final game of initial pool play at the Women's Junior World Cup.
The USA Under-21 team defeated England, September 14, 4-2 in the opening round of play. The following day, the USA came from behind to tie the top-seeded Netherlands, 2-2. In the USA’s win over Zimbabwe on September 17, 11 players scored, including two goals from Evans.
In the second phase of competition at the Junior World Cup, the USA defeated home-favorite Chile, 3-1, on September 18. With the win, the USA remains in first place in the Pool E standings with seven points. The USA has two games remaining in the pool against Australia today and against Spain on Wednesday. The top two teams in the pool qualify for the tournament semifinals.
Evans has scored one goal and posted five assists for the 5-3 Blue Hens this season. She is currently ranked fourth as one of the all-time assist leaders in school history with 21.
