NEWARK, DE -- Sophomore Molly Burke (right) scored two goals, including the game-winning-goal 8:17 into overtime, to lead the University of Delaware field hockey team to a 2-1 victory over Drexel in Colonial Athletic Association action Friday evening at Fred P. Rullo Stadium.
Drexel opened the scoring 5:51 into the game when Emily Horvat poked a rebound past Delaware goalkeeper Megan Allen to give the Dragons a 1-0 lead. Drexel held the lead late in the second half until Burke scored her eighth goal of the season to tie the game at one. Juniors Stephanie Swain and Amanda Warrington assited on Burke’s goal.
Burke’s team-leading ninth goal of the season was a virtual carbon-copy of her first tally and snapped the Blue Hens six-game losing streak. Swain and Warrington each had an assist on the game-winning-goal.
Allen made seven saves in the win, while Drexel keeper Colleen McAndrew recorded five saves.
With the win, the Blue Hens improve to 7-11 overall (2-6 CAA), while the Dragons fall to 10-8 overall (1-6 CAA).
Delaware concludes its season on Sunday, October 30 when the Blue Hens host La Salle at 1:30 p.m. Delaware will honor seniors Amber Deimler, Carly Campana and Kaili Kao prior to the contest.
