GLEN ALLEN, VA - University of Delaware field hockey players Molly Burke (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug), Katie Evans (Newtown Square, PA/Villa Maria Academy) and Amanda Warrington (Lewes, DE/Cape Henlopen) were named to the 2005 Dartfish/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team Monday morning.
Burke, a First Team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection this season, led the Blue Hens in scoring with 20 points and in goals with nine on the season. Burke was named CAA Player of the Week after scoring the first goal of her collegiate career off of a penalty corner in Delaware’s 3-2 victory over University of the Pacific on August 27. The following day, she scored the game-winner 9:27 into overtime to lift Delaware to a 2-1 victory over the University of California. She was also named the Wilmington Trust Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week as she scored two second half goals less than four minutes apart in the Blue Hens’ 3-2 loss to Towson on October 21. The following week, Burke scored two goals, including the game-winning-goal 8:17 into overtime, to lead Delaware to a 2-1 victory over Drexel.
Evans, a Second Team All-CAA selection this season, scored 14 points with four goals and a team-high six assists. As a member of the USA Under-21 team, Evans missed four games to play in the Junior World Cup in Santiago, Chile. She scored the game-winning-goal to lead Delaware over Virginia Commonwealth, 2-1 in overtime on September 30. She notched three assists in Delaware’s 4-1 win over Rutgers on September 9. Evans’ 23 career assists place her fourth on the all-time list at Delaware.
Warrington, a 2004 First-Team All-Region selection, was second on the team with 18 points this season. Despite missing six games with an injury, she led the team with six assists and had six goals. She was named CAA Player of the Week after netting her first career hat trick to lead Delaware to a 4-1 non-league victory over Rutgers University. She scored two goals to lead Delaware to a 5-1 win over Lafayette College. In 2004, Warrington was named the Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year and a member of the NFHCA All-American squad.
