NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware baseball program will host its annual homecoming golf tournament on Friday October 12th at The Club at Patriot’s Glen in Elkton, Maryland and will honor five program alumni at its annual homecoming tailgate on Saturday October 13th before the Delaware football team takes on Northeastern.
Check-in for the golf tournament will begin at 12 noon on Friday with a modified shotgun start beginning at 1 p.m. Lunch (hot dog, chips and soda) will be provided before tee-off followed by dinner and awards at the tournament’s conclusion. Dinner will be at the course and will be provided by the staff of the Elktowne Tavern. Awards will be given to the top two finishing teams as well as to the longest drive and closest to the pin competition winners.
Registrations are requested by Wednesday, October 10 with a cost of $150 per golfer. Tee sponsorships of $100 are welcomed from both individuals and businesses. Several items will be available for winning by way of raffle. All proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Fightin’ Blue Hen baseball program.
Saturday morning will feature the University of Delaware baseball alumni and friends annual homecoming tailgate beginning at 9:30 a.m. There is no cost for the event which will be held in the tent in the corner of the football practice field closest to Bob Hannah Stadium. Food and beverages will be provided by UD Dining Services.
At the tailgate, the members of the 2007-08 baseball team will introduce themselves, and alumni awards will be presented to five former Blue Hens, including Kevin Mench (at right - 1997-99, 246 career hits), Matt Ardizzone (1996-98, 241 career hits), Rich McGuire (1999-2002, 31 career wins), Steve Camper (1975-78) and Jim Trevena (1977-79).
