RICHMOND, VA -- University of Delaware freshman infielder Jon Duvall garnered Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week honors as selected by the league office.
Over the weekend, Duvall hit a team-best .583 against Princeton to lead a Delaware offense that scored 25 runs and hit .314 during the four-game series.
In just his second series in college, Duvall quickly adjusted to the Division I game as he went 7-for-12 off of the Tiger pitching staff. That stretch included two three-hit performances, both coming in the opening game of the two doubleheaders.
On Saturday, Duvall started the weekend off with a 3-for-4 game. His first hit, a single to left field, drove in the team’s first two runs of the contest. His two RBI started an incredible Blue Hen rally that saw the team eventually erase a nine-run deficit to pull out the 12-11 victory.
After going hitless in an abbreviated six-inning nightcap, he returned strong on Sunday with a 3-for-3 game in the opener. Later, he went 1-for-3 with a walk and run scored in the second game of the twinbill.
For the season, Duvall enters the week ranked fourth on the team with a .368 batting average. He also stands second with a .478 on-base percentage, third with seven hits, and fifth with four runs scored.
He is the first Blue Hen to earn Rookie of the Week accolades since current teammate Alex Buchholz was honored twice in 2006.
Along with Duvall, the CAA named William & Mary's Mike Sheridan the Player of the Week, while UNC Wilmington's Brad Holt was selected as the Pitcher of the Week.
A freshman from Fredericksburg, VA (Mountain View, HS), Duvall is a criminal justice major at Delaware.
