WILMINGTON, NC – Senior outfielder Adam Tsakonas and junior infielder Alex Buchholz were both honored as third-team All-Colonial Athletic Association selections during the annual conference awards banquet on Tuesday evening.

The honor was the second of Tsakonas' standout career, while it was the third postseason award for Buchholz.

Tsakonas (Pottstown, PA/Boyertown - top right), who earned second-team honors as a freshman in 2005, finished sixth in the CAA in slugging percentage with a .699 mark. His .470 on-base percentage also ranked eighth in the league, while his 12 home runs led the Hens and were tied for 10th among conference performers.

During his senior season, Tsakonas also finished second on the team with a .349 batting average, 13 doubles, and 41 runs scored. From March 2-28, he posted a career-best 16 game hitting streak. He also tied the program record for home runs in a game after slamming three against Hofstra on April 4.

Honored with the team’s Perry E. Burkett Award for inspiration and determination to the game of baseball, Tsakonas made a flawless transition to the outfield after spending his first three seasons splitting time between first and third base. In 30 starts in centerfield, he posted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage while notching two assists.

He finished his career with a .315 batting average. He also stands tied for fourth on the all-time program list with 35 home runs and ranks 16th with 50 doubles.

Buchholz (Millersville, MD/Old Mill - bottom right), who earned first-team All-athlete photoConference honors as a freshman and second-team accolades as a sophomore, also was a first-team preseason All-American selection this season. He finished fourth on the Hens with a .319 batting average and five home runs. He also led the squad with three triples and finished fifth with 11 doubles.

During the season, the junior tri-captain started 41 games, splitting time between second, third, and shortstop. Although he missed time after suffering a leg injury late in the year, Buchholz still had multiple hits in 14 games and at least two RBI in nine contests.

In his career, he has hit .366, which stands as the 14th best batting average in program history. He also ranks eighth with 34 home runs and 10th with 161 RBI.

Along with the two Hens, the CAA honored UNC Wilmington’s Mark Carver as the Player of the Year. The Seahawks’ Cameron Roth was also named the top rookie, while head coach Mark Scalf shared Coach of the Year honors with George Mason’s Bill Brown. Towson’s Nick Natoli also was named the top defensive player in the conference.
