RICHMOND, VA -- University of Delaware senior outfielder Bryan Hagerich has been named Colonial Athletic Association Co-Player of the Week and junior relief pitcher David Slovak has been named CAA Pitcher of the Week, the CAA announced on Monday evening.

In addition, Hagerich (Somerset, PA/Somerset) has been named National Co-Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. Hagerich (top right- photo courtesy of Bob Merkler) shares both CAA and National Player of the Week honors with James Madison outfielder Kellen Kulbacki.

In four games last week, Hagerich hit .615 (8-13) with four home runs, nine RBI and six runs scored. He hit two home runs apiece in games against Delaware State and Rutgers, marking the third consecutive game he had hit multiple home runs. The three straight multi-homer games tied a school record set by Kevin Mench in March of 1998.

On top of the .615 batting average, Hagerich was walked five times and was hit by a pitch, putting him on base a staggering 14 times in 19 plate appearances. He has now earned CAA weekly honors in all four seasons as a Blue Hen, after earning Rookie of the Week honors once in 2004 and being named CAA Player of the Week once apiece in 2005 and 2006. This week marks the second time Hagerich has earned national weekly accolades after being named to the College Baseball Foundation weekly honor roll in May of 2005.

Slovak (Louisville, KY/Shelton State CC) appeared in three of Delaware’s four games during the past week, posting a record of 0-0 with three saves and a 0.00 ERA. Slovak (bottom right) athlete photodominated opponents, striking out seven batters in six innings and allowing only two hits in 18 at-bats against him.

The submarine righty worked 1.2 innings in all three of his appearances to earn his third, fourth and fifth saves of the season in successive games. He was an intergral part in the Hens’ abbreviated sweep of CAA rival UNC Wilmington. For the season, Slovak has appeared in 19 games with a 1-2 record, five saves and a 3.18 ERA.

Delaware (13-16, 7-7 CAA) brings a season-best six-game winning streak into a non-conference matchup against Temple on Tuesday afternoon before hitting the road for a CAA series at Old Dominion this Friday through Sunday.
