NEWARK, DE -- University of Delaware sophomore infielder Alex Buchholz (right) has been named Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week for action ending May 13, the CAA announced on Monday afternoon.

Buchholz (Millersville, MD/Old Mill) hit .500 (10-20) for the week, including three doubles, two triples, a home run, scored six runs and stole two bases.

Buchholz had three hits apiece in the Hens two mid-week games against Temple and La Salle, missing the cycle by a single against Temple and by a home run against La Salle.

Against VCU over the weekend, Buchholz had two hits and scored twice in Friday’s loss, singled once in Saturday’s 3-1 win and then singled and scored what proved to be the game-winning run in Sunday’s 2-1 win over the Rams. He had at least one hit in all five games to extend his hitting streak to 18 games.

This week marks the first time that Buchholz has been named CAA Player of the Week, after twice earning Rookie of the Week honors in 2006. For the season, Buchholz leads the Blue Hens with a .403 batting average and 51 RBI. He leads the CAA and ranks second in the nation with 25 doubles.

The Blue Hens return to action Tuesday afternoon at Rutgers at 3 p.m.
