He ranks second on the team with eight home runs and leads the Colonial Athletic Association and ranks second in the nation with 25 doubles. Buchholz (at right- top) also proved to be a valuable defensive presence shifting from second base to third base and to shortstop to help stabilize the Delaware infield.
Harris (Bear, DE/Salesianum) has emerged as the Hens number one starter after spending his first three seasons in a variety of roles. He leads the team with a 5-1 record and a 4.24 earned run average. His 73 strikeouts are third in the CAA and he ranks among the national leaders in strikeouts per nine innings. With his start at VCU this past Friday, Harris (at right- bottom) tied the Delaware program record for career appearances with 72, a mark he is scheduled to break this Thursday at home against James Madison.
Menchaca (Wilmington, DE/Concord) is one of the premiere defensive outfielders in the region, utilizing his outstanding speed to cover the vast territory from gap to gap in the outfield. Menchaca has posted a .981 fielding percentage in 2007, making only two errors and recording two outfield assists. He is hitting .276 with six home runs, 29 RBI and leads the Hens with 18 stolen bases and 51 runs scored.
Hagerich (Somerset, PA/Somerset) has established himself as one of the top power hitters in Delaware history. He is a .302 career hitter with 45 home runs and 169 RBI. Hagerich has played in nearly every game as the Hens leftfielder since his freshman season of 2004, and is rapidly climbing the all-time lists in home runs, RBI, hits, games played and at-bats.
The Blue Hens (27-19, 16-10 CAA) close out the regular season with a game at Rutgers on Tuesday at 3 p.m. before hosting CAA rival James Madison this Thursday through Saturday. The Hens, who are 21-4 in their last 25 games, will then travel to Wilmington, NC for the CAA Championship tournament beginning Wednesday, May 23.
