Wilmington Trust Best of the Blue Hens
Omar Cuff - Football

October 15, 2007

Athlete photoNEWARK, DE (Oct. 15, 2007) -- All-American running back Omar Cuff, who rushed for 200 yards and scored three touchdowns in Delaware's 30-20 Homecoming football victory over Northeastern Saturday at Delaware Stadium, is the Wilmington Trust Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for the period ending Oct. 14.

Cuff, a native of Landover, MD (Flowers High School), helped the No. 15 ranked Blue Hens improve to 6-1 (4-1 Colonial Athletic Association) with the win over Northeastern, the team's sixth straight without a loss vs. the Huskies in Newark.

Cuff matched a career-high with 39 carries and finished with 200 yards rushing on the day. He scored three touchdowns, two on runs and one on a 25-yard screen pass from Joe Flacco early in the fourth quarter that broke a 20-20 tie.

His three touchdowns gave him 24 for the season, tying the school record set by Gardy Kahoe in 1971. Cuff posted his second 200-yard rushing effort of the season and the 15th 100-yard rushing outing of his career and moved into second place on the all-time UD rushing list with 3,282. Chuck Hall ran for 3,157 yards in 1968-70.

After Cuff’s third touchdown gave the Hens a 27-20 lead, the Blue Hens put the game away when they drove 91 yards on 21 plays and took eight minutes and 37 seconds off the clock, upping the lead to 30-20 on Jon Striefsky’s third field goal of the game with 1:35 remaining. Cuff carried the ball 14 times for 56 yards to highlight the possession.
