NEWARK, DE -- University of Delaware sophomore Stephanie Barry, who was named the tournament Most Valuable Player in leading the Blue Hens to the team title at the season-opening Delaware Invitational this past weekend, is the first Wilmington Trust Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week of the 2007-08 season.

Barry, a native of Long Beach, CA (Wilson High School), was also named Colonial Athletic Association Co-Player of the Week for her efforts over the weekend.

Against Boston College in the opening round of the Delaware Invitational, Barry (at right) set a career-high in digs with 36. That total also was the highest by any Hen since Taylor Govaars had 38 against Princeton in 2004.

During the second round game against Binghamton, Barry tallied 33 more digs, which set the record for the most digs by a Blue Hen in a three-game match. She became the first Delaware player to record back-to-back 30-dig performances since Heather Ranck had three straight in 2005.

After recording 26 more digs against South Carolina in the championship match, Barry was named the Delaware Invitational’s Most Valuable Player after finishing with a tournament-high 95 digs and a team-high seven service aces.
