NEWARK, DE -- Senior Susan Pollack, who led the University of Delaware women's tennis team to two historic victories this past week, is the Wilmington Trust Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for April 7, 2008.
Pollack, a three-year letterwinner from Wyomissing, PA (Wyomissing High School), led the Blue Hens (9-1, 4-0 Colonial Athletic Association) to a 3-0 week with wins of 7-0 over Bethune-Cookman, 4-0 over UNC Wilmington, and 7-0 over James Madison. The wins over CAA foes UNC Wilmington and James Madison marked the first-ever wins for the UD women over those teams in school history.
An honor student in marketing at Delaware, Pollack went a perfect 3-0 in play at No. 1 singles and 2-0 in action at No. 1 doubles during the week. She won 36 of 44 games in singles and 16 of 21 games in doubles with partner Courtney Fenimore.
Pollack now ranks No. 4 all-time at Delaware in singles wins with a record of 65-25 and extended her school record for career doubles wins to 68-20.
She opened the week by defeating Monika Musilova of Bethune-Cookman 6-4, 6-1 and teaming with Fenimore for an 8-5 win at doubles. Agains UNC Wilmington on Friday, she downed Priscilla Roberts 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 1 spot. Doubles events were not held due to rain. Pollack then capped the week on Saturday by defeating JMU's Rebecca Erickson 6-1, 6-2 in singles and teaming with Fenimore for an 8-2 win in doubles. Sunday's match vs. Hofstra was rained out.
Delaware will continue action this week with road matches at Towson Apr. 8 and at Georgetown Apr. 9.
