University of Delaware freshman women's track and field standout Cristine Marquez is the Wilmington Trust Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for the period ending March 4.
A native of Old Bridge, NJ (Old Bridge High School), Marquez enjoyed an outstanding performance in the final indoor meet of the season as she posted two top 10 finishes at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston this past weekend.
Marquez placed eighth in the 400 meters, breaking her own school record with a time of 55.74 in the preliminaries and following with a time of 55.84 in the finals. She broke her own school record of 56.33. Maxcene Foster of St. John’s won the race with a time of 53.72. Marquez earned All-East honors for her top eight finish.
She then teamed with Daniella Price, Brittany Wright, and Asha Quant to place ninth in the 4 x 400 meter relay with a time of 3:51.30. The foursome ran to a time of 3:50.37 in the preliminary round.
Marquez is enrolled in the College of Human Services, Education, and Public Policy at Delaware.
