One of several original panels this painting shows a Samurai warrior displaying a western cross and musket. In the background is a galleon. The painting in on paper with color and applied gold and is just over 2 foot tall. The work is of historical interest, is in the Seattle Art Museum ’s fine collection of Asian art, and gives insights into how Asia was changed by the great Age of Exploration. Screen painting and carvings are important art forms in the Far East .
