Art in Asia begins early. This vessel that once held wine is 20.8 inches high and is in the Shanghai Museum . Recently discovered, this Shang Dynasty bronze lei, dates fromabout 1200 B.C. Western craftsmen of this time lacked this level of skill. A bronze casting of this size was would not be made in the Mediterranean area of Europe until a  thousand  years later.
