These are garments that both men and women of this time wore. Typically, (but not always ,as we see) the garment is divided into specific pattern areas. Shoulders are one area; sleeves, bottom, and midsection are yet another.  Some kimonos had elaborate embroidery, and gold or silver foil was also attached. The garment with the flowers and horses has hand-painted details and was made for a young boy.
