This is an export-ware porcelain punch bowl, custom made for a Philadelphia family, depicting a U.S. naval ship, named for the distinguished Philadelphia resident and statesman Benjamin Franklin.  An custom made bowl with an image of this vessel, that surely often sailed the Delaware, demonstrates how much local trade must have existed between this area of the Amercan Colonies and  both  apan and China.
