The helmet looks as a heavy cloth hood would appear when worn in the wind. The red area is a brow piece to protect the forehead and give expression.  This helmet was worn by a principal leader who played an important role in unifying Japan after a time of civil wars. Martial arts were very important in this warring period, when Japan ’s warriors were also involved in the Invasion of Korea.
