This is a delightful detail from a large hanging scroll. There may have been a set showing the four seasons. The artist was one that was famed during the Sung dynasty. That children were the subject is an indication that the royal court of China valued children. While this work shows both sexes, in order that the family line continue there had to be sons. Therefore, images of boys are seen more often in Chinese art. |
