BROWNE JENKYN
It is with great pleasure that we are able to present music played and recorded for this project by Browne Jenkyn, which is an instrumental and vocal group that performs traditional music from the British Isles. They also perform more recent pieces written in the traditional style. In their repertoire are songs of adventure, love and other themes. Included among these are jigs, reels, brisk marches and romantic waltzes.
Eileen Eggert, the female member of Browne Jenkyn, performs on tin whistles, flute, bodhran, and also sings. She has been a member of several performing and reenacting groups. She has played Celtic music for the past twelve years. In addition to belonging to Browne Jenkyn, Ms. Eggert is a member of Cwn Annwn and has a life-long interest in British history.
Also members of Browne Jenkyn are Del and Dave Merritt. Del is proficient on the mandolin, bouzouki, bodhran and also performs vocals. Besides playing with Browne Jenkyn he has also belonged to the celtic groups Cwn Annwn and Kintail. He has had a long-time interest in European history and culture.
In addition to membership in Browne Jenkyn, Cwn Annwn, and Kintail, Dave Merritt has belonged to the group Celtic Fringe and a bagpipe group where he played the snare drum. He is an avid reenactor and has been an artist-in-residence in schools, presenting military equipment. Dave tells us that a bodhran is a Celtic frame drum. He has demonstrated these also in his drumset concept workshops. His interests also include blues music.
