All computers in the Student Multimedia Design Center running the Windows XP operating system can run ArcInfo, a popular Geographic Information System (GIS) software by ESRI. There is an additional computer known as the Digital Mapping Station that has this software plus preloaded data to use in the software. To use the station, please sign in at the service deskand ask staff to enter the password. We encourage users to make an appointment with staff for more extensive assistance.
This station is restricted to those using GIS software or doing Digital Mapping work.
It is each individual's responsibility to abide by the copyright law in copying any CD-ROM or DVD-ROM. Many CD-ROMs or DVD-ROMs received as part of the Federal Depository Program are in the public domain and are not copyrighted, but most others are copyright protected. A basic tutorial: ArcGIS: Introduction to ArcView 9 can be used at the Digital Mapping Station.
For an example of an Excel file to use when joining a table use: visited.csv

Available for downloading maps and GIS data from the internet. Popular mapping sites are bookmarked.

CD-ROMs that contain GIS data that the library owns and which are fully compatible with ESRI's ArcView software. These discs are available at the Student Multimedia Design Center desk on the Lower Level of the library, and most can be checked out. All can be used at the library's Digital Mapping Station, which is currently running ArcView 9.x. For more information, email Shelly McCoy or call her at (302) 831-6363.
The following software is loaded on the Digital Mapping Station, but the CD is still needed from the service desk to run the program:
