Map Collection & CD-ROMs
Map Collection
The
Map Collection is located on the Lower Level of the Morris Library in
an area near the Sussman Room, Room 056. Some of the items contained in
the Map Collection are:
- Topographic map coverage for the United States, in scales ranging from 1:24,000 to 1:250,000
- A large selection of maps covering the rest of the world, including some large scale topographic series and thematic maps
- A series of foreign and political maps produced by the CIA that are predominantly page-size and easily reproducible
- Atlases, gazetteers, trail guides, navigational charts, U.S. & foreign travel guides
Some
maps are placed in a locked map cabinet for safe keeping. These include
one copy of every Delaware 7.5 minute topographic map and our
collection of 15 minute maps.
If you need some assistance with the Map Collection, please ask at the Student Multimedia Design Center desk.
The Library also maintains an excellent subject guide pertaining to Cartographic Information, Maps, and Spatial Data resources online.
For information on maps that contain demographic as well as geographic data, please see the Digital Mapping Station page.
CD-ROMs
The
Microforms room on the Lower Level houses the library's non-audio CD-ROM collection,
containing over 1500 CD-ROM titles. Many of these titles come on
deposit for the federal depository library program.
To
find a CD-ROM in DELCAT use an Advanced Search and chose "Computer
File" or "Map" (depending on the content desired) as the Format and
then enter search terms using one of the searching mechanisms, such as
Keyword(s) anywhere search.
The majority of these CD's can
be checked out of the library for 7 days or used on one of the computers in the Student Multimedia Design Center, if you are a UD student, faculty, or staff.
Public users are able to use the Digital Mapping Station to load CD titles received on deposit. Please ask for assistance at the Student Multimedia Design Center desk.
