Printing from a Windows Laptop to a Computing Site Printer Queue

Before you begin
: To print from a laptop to a printing queue in an IT computing site, you will need to download the printer driver for the printer to which you want to print. You can install these printer drivers on your laptop if you have either

If your Vista laptop is running Service Pack 2, the process for installing these printer drivers is not yet compatible with your laptop and will not work. To determine which Service Pack your Vista laptop is running, follow these steps:

  1. Right-click the Computer icon on your desktop.
  2. From the drop-down menu, click Properties at the bottom of the list.
  3. You will see the System window, which should look similar to the following:

  1. In this example, this Vista laptop is running Service Pack 2 (see red arrow in the above graphic). "Service Pack 1" would appear in this location if your laptop was running Service Pack 1. Therefore, the process for installing these printer drivers is not yet compatible with your laptop and will not work. You do not need to proceed any further with the following instructions.
  2. If your laptop is running Service Pack 1, you can continue with the instructions outlined below.

Printing from a Windows Laptop to a Computing Site Printer Queue

To print from a Windows-based laptop (XP or Vista Service Pack 1) to a duplex printer in an IT computing site, you will need to install a printer driver for the printer in that site. You only need to install this printer driver once, but you may need to select it each time you want to print to it.

You do not need to be physically located in a computing site to either install or print to the site's printer. However, you will have to release your printout from the VendPrint station in the computing site within the required 30-minute time period.

NOTE
If you have a third party firewall installed on your laptop, you may see an error message that your laptop can't connect to the printer. If you receive such a message, you will need to open access to the IP address of the server that hosts the print queue.
