The World's
Deserts

Background

Thanks to the World Wide Web there is a lot of information at our fingertips. Unfortunately, there is more information than any of us can possibly review all by ourselves. Today, we'll be working together to create a class presentation that others can look at to get a better sense of what a desert is like. If everyone takes a different part of the puzzle, the overall class product will give people a good glimpse of what deserts are like.

Formulate the Questions

Start by deciding what you would like to know about deserts that you don't already know and that others would also like to know about. Here are some starter ideas.

  • Where are the world's deserts located?
  • What kind of weather occurs in the desert?
  • What kinds of animals live in the desert? How are they able to survive?
  • What kinds of plants live in the desert? How are they able to survive?
  • Can you visit a desert? What would a vacation there be like?

There are lots of other possibilities so formulate your question carefully.

Research

Use each of the sites below to find answers to your question. Keep track of what you have learned and what

Report

Use the worksheet to organize your information. Remember to work neatly so we can share the information with others. Also, remember to list carefully where you got your information to give others credit and so that people can read more about your question.

Find 1 picture that illustrates your answer well and print it to go along with your report. Remember to write down where this came from too. (That's 1 picture -- not more!)

Putting it Together

One last piece! Since this is a class project, we want to fit the pieces together. On the back of your sheet write down one or two words to indicate what category you would put this information in.
