Smyrna School District
Technology Planning Meeting
THE Technology Goal

Technology will be used throughout the district to help every student meet or exceed the standards.  These uses include instructional (both teacher-directed and student utilization), administrative (teacher-level to district-level), and support services applications of technology.

Accomplishments -- December 13, 2000

  1. Goals and Strategies for Using Technology to Improve Education -- Dave Brown and Sandy Shalk

    • Sandy Shalk presented the goals and strategies.
    • Sandy is revising wording and ordering of goals.
    • Other ideas:
      • District #2 -- Smyrna could schedule one of the district-wide inservice days to coincide with DCET conference. Wendy commented that DCET was thinking of moving to day of statewide inservice

Another possibility for 2002 and beyond use the DCET conference as the Smyrna Tech Day. On Day 1 of DCET Conference, anyone in district could go to DCET but there will also be small workshops at Smyrna. Anyone who teaches a seminar at Smyrna gets to go to DCET on the 2nd day of the conference.

  2. Integrate is taking on the project of creating a single sheet Technology Skills Growth Chart.

  3. Smyrna District, School and Teacher Websites

    • Dave - All teachers in the district can now create web pages in Word and publish them by saving in the "W:" shared drive on the network.

    • Discussion -- what should be included at each level

  5. Planning for TechDay 2001
    • Question 1: How do we honor commitment to teachers that we'd offer seminars at least 2 more times so they could meet the plan that they set forth on their commitment sheets and hold presenters to their commitment to offer their sessions twice more in 2000-2001 school year.

      Possibilities
      • offer sessions during ½ days
      • offer after school and pay presenter
    • Question 2: can we move Tech Day to 3/ 9 and use 2/5 for rubric training? Enables us to take care of commitment re re-presentation of 6/2000 seminars prior to launching the 2001-2002 initiatives.
