Using the World Wide Web for
Research
in the Elementary Grades
Searching:
In order to use the WWW for research, teachers need to know
about the variety of search tools available to themselves and their students.
The first link is from a presentation on that topic from the 1997 Delaware
Educational Technology Conference.
The Big Six Skills:
For any research project, it's important to have a strategy
for research. This page will outline the Mike Eisenberg and Bob Berkowitz'
Big Six Skills and link to some implementation strategies and examples.
WebQuests: Just as in any other
classroom assignment, it is important to give students a clear definition
of the problem and the resources to get the job done. Dr. Bernie Dodge, a
professor of educational technology at San Diego State University, developed
an approach to apply the lessons learned in other teaching to activities using
the Internet.
Creating a Web Page:
Finally, you'll want to present the tasks to your students on
the Web. There's no need for them to type in all those URLs and use up precious
school time searching for keys instead of for useful information. These pages
should help you get started.
