During this course you'll have a variety of assignments and projects. As you proceed through the syllabus, you'll find questions included in each module. Some of the assignments will be responses within the WebCT Discussion Forum. For others, you'll be posting your work to the Web in a series of webpages. I've built a template that you can use for this or you can use another format that works for you. For each assignment, you'll also record the URL for the webpage that includes your answer so that all of us will be able to find it. You'll use the WebCT Discussion Forum to insert the URL into the appropriate topic. Since we are using the forum, all of your answers will be available to all members of the class.Since we never actually see each other, we'll be able to observe other people's contributions to the class through this avenue. In fact, your answers will only receive credit when you add something new to the class. You'll find this a bit different from other classes in that you'll be contributing to the whole body of knowledge with your submissioins. Most of the assignments are worth only 5 points, but watch the weighting of each assignment. This should give you a good guide to the relative time and depth expected in each assignment. The larger assignments are the evaluation of a WebQuest, a curriculum project and a reflective essay. These three together constitute 50% of the course. You'll find each of these explained in detail in the syllabus and, of course, I'll be available for questions. |

You'll notice that each of the assignments has a due date. The idea behind this is not to penalize you but to create a more "class-like" atmosphere. As we go through the class, there will be work to do online and we will also be "conversing" using the listserv (educ632sp02@yahoogroups.com). If we are not at the same place in the course, the conversations will be strained. So....all assignments really are due on the date stated. For each 2 days they are late, the top grade you are eligible for for that assignment will drop to the next category. So, on time would you get an A as the top grade, two days late the top grade would be A-, four days late a B+, etc. Of course, in special circumstances, you need to let me know if you have trouble meeting the deadlines. Overall, I think you'll see that the class is more interesting when everyone is submitting in the same time period! Along the same lines, each of your submissions should be built on what has come before. You'll see that many of the assignments ask you to find and evaluate new sites or to offer an opinion. Since your assignments will be in the discussion forum, you'll be expected to add to a growing discussion rather than simply completing your assignment as a lone student. You'll see how this works as we go along. |
