Cape Henlopen Technology & Curriculum
Planning Committee

November 15, 2000

Create a plan to guide staff and students in the uses of technology to enhance learning in all curricular areas.

ATTENDEES: Cathy Pettigout, Linda Gregory, Mary Bethe D'Amico, Corey Groll, Wendy Modzelewski, Lori Roe, Pat Sine

Updates

  • Essential Preconditions
    • Richard has supplied us with a list of existing District and school commitments to technology.

  • Standards and Guidelines (develop, adopt or adapt)
    • Since the NETS is nationally accepted and they closely support the Delaware standards and the Cape curriculum guidelines, the NETS will be used as standards for technology use.

  • Plan for integration with curriculum to ensure progress in both areas
    • At the 9/21 meeting a letter and form to be used for collecting existing technology integration examples was developed. These were distributed to each of the schools but returns were rather light.

Lori's New Direction

    • Lori presented a new approad to collecting good models for technology integration to be subsequently used in the district guide.
    • Approach:
      • Start with the standards and PIs. Build from there. This capitalizes on the school and teacher emphasis on achieving the standards.
      • First, consider which PIs could be well met using technology. (This would include productivity tools, curriculum software, Web-based lessons and activities and Web tools.)
      • Annotate each PI selected as to what technologies would be used.
      • For each one, describe in a sentence or two how technology could be used by students to achieve the goal.

  • For next time? Should this be used with teachers? Should this be expanded to a broader project?
    • The attendees agreed to work on this separately to see the feasibility of the project. Each member will submit to the listserv by December 15, ten examples of an annotated PI.
