Service
Global Ambassador
On behalf of Sigma Theta Tau, Maria DiMarzio has been chosen as the first Global Ambassador to represent the Beta Xi Chapter on an international health aide trip. The goal of Beta Xi's Global Ambassador Program is consistent with STTI's ongoing vision of creating a global community of nurses who represent characteristics of leadership, knowledge, and service to improve the health of the world's people. Maria will be traveling to Chennai, India in September 2008 with Global Volunteers, a non-profit organization supported by STTI. For three weeks in India, Maria will be volunteering at local hospitals and shelters, providing nursing care to impoverished orphans. Upon success of her trip, Beta Xi hopes to send an eligible active member every several years to a developing nation in need. Beta Xi looks forward to Maria's trip and continuing STTI's mission of creating international health care initiatives.
"When we started the Global Task Force, I had no idea that I would be chosen to volunteer in India within the next year,” states Maria DiMarzio. “I feel extremely honored to be chosen as the first Global Ambassador to receive this opportunity and I hope not only to make a difference in our host community, but also to learn how to provide quality nursing leadership and care within a setting that has limited resources.”
