The UD central e-mail system provides a spam filter that, once activated, can check e-mail for spam characteristics and assign it a Spam score. The system automatically creates a Junk Mail folder which is visible in UD Webmail Direct and desktop e-mail clients. All suspected spam is directed to this Junk Mail folder based on the Spam score.

The UD spam filter is automatically activated for new UDelNet accounts.

UDelNet accounts created before Fall 2005 can activate it as follows:

All users should:

  • Review the Junk Mail folder daily to confirm that valid e-mail has not been designated as spam.

Users can easily fine-tune the Webmail Direct Spam Filter with White Lists and Block Lists.

For more information on what is Spam and tips on preventing and dealing with it, see Dealing with SPAM at the University of Delaware.

Reporting SPAM to the FCC:

Forward any SPAM received to the Federal Trade Commission at spam@uce.gov, making sure you include the full email header, which is required to investigate the complaint.
