You are responsible for keeping your computer or wireless router secure.

This is important because of the flood of malicious software and computer attacks on the internet. Your computer will be scanned, probed and tested for security weaknesses from all over the world. These attacks will try to break into your computer and take control of it to illegally send spam that will be traced to you, or to enlist your computer in other rogue activity without your knowledge.

If your system is compromised by a virus, worm, Trojan, bot or other malicious software, it puts a strain on the network and increases the chances that the information on your system - including your passwords, credit card numbers and other personal information - will be lost or stolen.

What if other people's credit card or social security numbers are on my system?
