Copyright Infringement Statistics
Academic Year 2007-2008

This page shows the number of student computers that have been cited for copyright infringement and removed from the University's network in the current academic year. When students violate copyright laws, they:

  1. Have their residence hall ports disabled.
  2. Receive a  “Copyright Violation Notice” in their University e-mail account.
  3. Are required to remove all illegally obtained copyrighted materials from the computer.
  4. Are required to schedule an appointment to have the computer examined by IT/User Services at a cost of $70 for first-time service and $100 for any subsequent service.
  5. Are referred to the Office of Judicial Affairs. Sanctions start at disciplinary probation and a minimum 30-day suspension of computers the student owns from the University network.

At the end of the sanction period, a student’s network access is re-enabled if that student has complied with the above requirements.
