Biotechnology Summer Camp 2003

Purpose/Intent

The purpose of a "Biotechnology Summer Camp" is to elevate high school students' interests and spark the curiosity of high school students for learning science and applying it in a laboratory setting. The idea that science can be challenging as well as fun, exciting, and practical, should instill in each student an appreciation of what science is all about; Everyday Living. In addition, the concept of Bioscience Research will be introduced to the students to broaden their interests. After participating in this camp, we hope that many students will be encouraged to select a major in the sciences and ultimately pursue a career in science.

Major Objectives

  • Promote cooperative learning among students within the same age groups by forming teams
  • Allow students to conduct hands-on laboratory experiments
  • Expose students to "The Life of a Scientist" through speakers who are professionals in various scientific fields
  • Tour local research facilities
