Special Interest HousingCommunity, Leadership, InvolvementThe Ray Street Complex, home to Special Interest Housing (SIH), is growing and changing each year. SIH is a place where students can live and work with like-minded students of various disciplines and interests and develop a learning environment that supports both their interests and academics. Living at Ray Street also provides opportunities for students to learn about other communities, activities and resources on campus. While living in a Special Interest Community, students participate actively in their living environment. Unlike any other residential experience at the University of Delaware, students take control of their environment. Each community determines its room selection, placement, and lounge usage. Community success is dependent on member leadership, initiative, and creativity. Special Interest Housing communities vary each year based on students' interests. Some examples of Special Interest Housing Communities are:
Ray Street ComplexBuilt in 1990 Ray Street is comprised of 3 buildings on Laird Campus, each housing approx. 115 students. There are 15 lounges, 3 laundry rooms, and 3 kitchens, throughout the buildings. Each student room has it's own sink, and shares a private bathroom with the neighboring room (4 students per bathroom).
