Global Community

The Global Community has been designed for those prospective residents who would like to experience living with international students. This Unique Housing option can offer particular educational benefits to those students who are planning to study abroad, who have returned from a study abroad program, or who are strongly interested in daily living in a diverse environment.

While the Office of International Studies brings UD students to Korea, Japan or Colombia, the goal of the Office of Residence Life is to bring Korea, Japan or Colombia to the UD students. The Global Community Residents will enjoy the opportunity to learn (or improve) another language, get to know another cuisine and the dos and don'ts of a culture which they would have not been able to experience otherwise. While the Office of Residence Life will provide international and US students with an opportunity to interact through a variety of formal activities, the most memorable learning process will take place through informal daily interactions in an apartment style living arrangement.

The Global Community housing option is located in Christiana East Tower. Interested students will live in a four-person apartment. Each apartment will house two US and two international students. In order to match students as closely to their interests as possible, both international and US students will be asked to supply additional information and attend an orientation.

The Office of Residence Life hopes that through this unique housing option our residents will be able to gain the skills they will find indispensable as future employees, employers, parents, neighbors or simply well rounded citizens in the multicultural world we live in.

If you are interested in participating in the Global Community or have questions about the community, please contact the Complex Coordinator for the Christiana Towers, at (302) 831-8497. You will also need to indicate your interest by signing up though the Unique Housing Options process.
