(New students cannot sign up to participate on Arrival Survival Team.)
It is a group of volunteers that helps New students move
their luggage and other belongings into their residence hall rooms on New
Student Check-in Day. This activity assists students and their parents in
their transition to the University, is the first step in extending a warm
welcome to them, and begins to build the strong and positive community that
enhances every student's living and learning experience.
Eighteen years ago, the Sigma Chi fraternity developed the
team as a service project to assist the first year students in the Dickinson
Complex. The Office of Residence Life assumed responsibility for the program
fifteen years ago and the team has grown every year. Last Fall, more than 600 people
served on the AST team!
- Students: Register online here by August 22, 2008. If you have a problem and cannot register online, contact Linda Wooters at lwooters@udel.edu.
- Once you have registered consider yourself A MEMBER OF THE TEAM. No confirmation will be sent. We will contact you in August.
- On Friday, August 29th, between 9:00am and 6:00pm please report to 5 Courtney Street to pick up your t-shirt and assignment. No assignments will be given before this date.
- If you cannot report at the above time you may designate a friend to do that for you.
Registration information is also being distributed through
the leadership of Complex Community Councils, fraternities, sororities and
other student clubs and organizations.
Faculty, Staff, and Alumni: Register on line here by August 20, 2008 or contact Linda Wooters at lwooters@udel.edu with questions or if you are unable to register online.
- AST members who are living on campus will check in to their
permanent Fall room assignments during the standard early check in time Thursday, August 28, 2008 from 5:00 - 9:00
pm. There can be no exceptions to this check-in time. There will be no charge for AST members to check in early - unless they
fail to report or work their entire assigned shift.
All areas of campus will be served on New Student Check-in
Day (Sunday, August 31, 2008 (8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.)
The majority of the Freshmen live in the following locations:
- West Campus
- Dickinson Complex
- Rodney Complex
- East Campus
- Harrington Complex (Freshmen Honors students)
- Lane Hall
- Thompson Hall
- Laird Campus
- George Read Hall
- Thomas McKean Hall
- Ray Street (Ray Street residents only)
We will need student, faculty, staff and alumni volunteers
to carry luggage and other belongings to student rooms and answer questions
that students and their families may have.
- You may request to be assigned with 1 friend or as a group if you are a member of an RSO
- Request your shift: 8-11, 10-1, 11-2, and 1-4
- You may even request a specific
area of campus.
Although, we will do our best to accommodate most requests, our first priority is to ensure that all areas have sufficient volunteers throughout the entire day.
NOTE: Those who sign up after August 1 will most likely be assigned to the 8-11 am or 1-4 pm shift in the area where we have the greatest need.
- In mid-August you will receive an email to your UD email address reminding you of the early check-in dates and times as well as instructions for the on-line training that you must READ ONLY.
- All AST volunteers will need to come to the Residence Life Office on Friday, August 29th between the hours of 8:00am - 6:00pm to pick up their t-shirt, assignments and to confirm that they have READ the on-line information. The office will close promptly at 6:00pm.
Please check this website periodically for updates or new information.
