Hello. My name is Kathleen G. Kerr, and I am the Director of Residence Life at the University of Delaware. I’ve been here since 1990 – having arrived after completing both my BA and my MS at Indiana University, Bloomington. What I didn’t realize when I arrived was how much I would fall in love with UD and how many challenges and new learning experiences the Office of Residence Life would present to me. While I began my career here as a Complex Coordinator, I’ve been the Director since January of 2002.
In between those years I held a variety of positions and I began and completed my doctorate in Educational Leadership. Now I have the great joy of also holding a secondary appointment as an Assistant Professor in the department of Human Development and Family Studies. This allows me to teach two courses for students working on their Masters in the College Counseling/Student Affairs Practice program and also to teach a course to students working on their doctorates in Educational Leadership.
Outside of UD, I am active in the American College Personnel Association, ACPA. I served as the Chair of ACPA’s Commission for Housing and Residential Life from 2006-2008 and as the 2009 Convention Program Chair. I currently serve on ACPA’s Sustainability Task Force and am the Director-elect for Member Services. I am also a member of AAC&U, the Association of American College and Universities; NASPA, the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators; MACUHO, the Mid-Atlantic Association of College and University Housing Officers; and ACUHO-I, the Association of College and University Housing Officers International. I reside in Newark with my husband; four daughters; Boston Terrier, Macy; and Pug, Sadie.
